SOUP IN THE BATHROOM
Once, a 7-year-old MK (missionary kid) was at a new church in South America. Her Spanish was very limited, knowing only how to say “no entiendo” and “no hablo español.” She had to go to the restroom and upon entering, saw that there was no soap to wash her hands. Someone was walking by so the little girl quickly asked “¿Hay sopa?” The person just started at her while the girl asked again “¿No hay sopa?” She thought she was asking for soap, thinking it was one of those words you can easily change into Spanish, but in reality was asking for soup. Surely the person who the MK was talking to walked away thinking “Why in the world does this little girl keep asking me for soup while she is in the bathroom?!?!”
